  85.                     libraries, online man pages, release notes, and

  139.                     If you are installing this option for the first
  140.                     time, the subsystems marked ``default'' are the
  141.                     ones that are installed if you use the ``go''
  142.                     menu item.  To install a different set of
  143.                     subsystems, use the ``install,'' ``remove,''
  144.                     ``keep,'' and ``step'' commands in _i_n_s_t to
  145.                     customize the list of subsystems to be
  146.                     installed, then select the ``go'' menu item.

  149.                     2.2  _P_a_t_c_h_e_s
  150.

  152.                     Patches provide the means to upgrade runtime
  153.                     library subsystems (*_eoe) on released versions
  154.                     of IRIX.
  155.  
  156.                     patchSG0002360 (for MIPSpro Fortran 77 7.2 on
  157.                     IRIX 6.2) and patchSG0002360 (for MIPSpro
  158.                     Fortran 77 7.2 on IRIX 6.3 and 6.4) on the IRIX
  159.                     Development Foundation CD contain gl subsystems
  160.                     previously released with the compiler.

  162.                     Releases of the IRIS Developer's Option
  163.                     previously packaged certain graphics library
  164.                     interfaces for Fortran 77 in ftn_dev.  As of the
  165.                     MIPSpro 7.2 release, they are no longer be
  166.                     packaged as part of the Fortran 77 product.
  167.                     Rather they will be packaged in future relases
  168.                     of the gl_dev product which is part of the IRIX
  169.                     Development Libraries CD set. For this release,
  170.                     however, gl_dev is same version as was released
  171.                     for the IRIS Developer's Option 7.1.1 and does
  172.                     not contain these libraries.  Hence the need for
  173.                     this patch.

  175.                     Patch 2759 MIPSpro 7.2.1 Runtime Libraries
  176.                     (Required for -craylibs operation)

  178.                     Whereas the ftn_eoe subsystems on the IRIX
  179.                     Development Foundation CD contain the original
  180.                     IRIX 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4 runtime libraries, patch
  181.                     2759 contains new revisions of these libraries.
  182.                     They include bug fixes as well as new interfaces
  183.                     for multiprocessing as well as new runtime
  184.                     libraries.  These runtime libraries are required
  185.                     for the -f2craylibs option which enables use of
  186.                     the Fortran 90 library, libfortran.so, which is
  187.                     based on the CRAY FFIO library.

  206.  
  207.                     Whereas the compiler_eoe subsystems on the IRIX
  208.                     Development Foundation CD contain the original
  209.                     versions of libmp for IRIX 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4,
  210.                     patch 2773 contains the new revision of these
  211.                     libraries. It includes bug fixes as well as new
  212.                     interfaces for multiprocessing. Patch 2773 is
  213.                     required for use with OpenMP.

  218.                     2.3  _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d

  220.                     All of the subsystems for Fortran can be
  221.                     installed using _i_n_s_t from IRIX.  You do not need
  222.                     to use the miniroot.  Refer to the _I_R_I_S _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
  223.                     _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation
  224.                     instructions.

  227.                     2.4  _C_o_m_p_a_t_i_b_i_l_i_t_y
  228.  
  229.                     F77 release 7.2.1 is a compiler aimed at
  230.                     software development for a MIPS3 or MIPS4
  231.                     instruction set architecture (ISA) in 64-bit (-
  232.                     _6_4) or N32 (-_n_3_2) mode, but with options to
  233.                     compile for a MIPS2 or MIPS1 ISA in 32-bit mode
  234.                     (-_3_2).  Refer to the _f_7_7(1) man pages, the
  235.                     _M_I_P_S_p_r_o _F_o_r_t_r_a_n _7_7 _P_r_o_g_r_a_m_m_e_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e, the
  236.                     _F_o_r_t_r_a_n _7_7 _L_a_n_g_u_a_g_e _R_e_f_e_r_e_n_c_e _M_a_n_u_a_l, the
  237.                     _M_I_P_S_p_r_o _C_o_m_p_i_l_i_n_g, _D_e_b_u_g_g_i_n_g _a_n_d _P_e_r_f_o_r_m_a_n_c_e

  245.                     In 32-bit mode, the 7.2.1 release of the F77
  246.                     compiler is fully compatible with the 7.2 and
  247.                     7.1 releases of the compiler. It is also
  248.                     compatible with the 3.19 release of the compiler
  249.                     with the following exceptions:

  253.                        +o The default ISA is -_m_i_p_s_2.

  271.                     In 64-bit mode, the 7.2.1 release of the F77
  272.                     compiler follows the 64-bit Applications Binary

  276.                     only run in an Irix 6.2 (or higher) operating

  283.                     files left over from compilations using MIPSpro
  284.                     7.1 with interprocedural optimization enabled
  285.                     (i.e. -IPA), you must recompile the entire set
  286.                     of files.
